 Planning with the GSOs

The GSOs are not a tool for working with communities, they are a tool for planning and measuring the impact of work with communities. To retain funding and support museums, libraries and archives need to:

  1. Work closely with local communities
  2. Make a case for the difference our work makes to people’s lives and present solid arguments for why making this difference matters in society.

Resource 4.1 Focussed Conversations (looking at social purpose) aims to support your organisation’s internal discussions about social outcomes and to help you develop a clear statement about your values: i.e. why you work with communities, and the benefits you want to bring to your local community.

Resource 4.2 Making an Impact (looking at results) aims to support staff discussions about how your service 1) works with local communities and 2) makes a case for why the work is important.

Resources 4.3 Planning with the GSOs and 4.4 Planning in a Nutshell can be used to guide future GSO planning through creating an action plan, identifying ways in which you want to increase the impact you have on communities and the impact you have externally.
